The increasing number of road accidents involving young people has become a pressing concern, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Addressing the issue during a Road Safety Public Education Awareness Motorcade on Sunday, Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn emphasized the alarming rate of fatalities among young road users.

As part of Road Safety Month activities, the motorcade sought to raise awareness about safe road practices and the dangers of reckless driving.

The campaign also underscored the importance of adhering to traffic laws to reduce road fatalities.

The minister highlighted the emotional and societal toll of these incidents, pointing out that the loss of young lives not only devastates families but also diminishes Guyana’s potential workforce and overall development.

The government, through initiatives like this motorcade, aims to educate citizens and foster a culture of safety on the country’s roadways.

Observed under the theme “Do the Right Thing!” this year’s Road Safety Month reflects a nationwide commitment to promoting responsible driving and reducing the risks associated with road use, especially among vulnerable groups.
