In a recent visit to Region Five, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill addressed the De Hoop and Mahaicony Branch Road communities regarding ongoing road construction projects.

The minister assured residents that the road works in De Hoop would be completed by the end of August, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.

During the visit, Minister Edghill dispatched the design team to assess the sub-base quality on the Mahaicony Branch Road, aiming to ensure that the construction meets the required standards.

He highlighted the delays experienced in the De Hoop project, attributing them to the additional request for road widening and the subsequent need for constructing retaining walls.

Minister Edghill also emphasized the importance of effective communication and collaboration between contractors and local residents.

He advocated for a transparent approach where the bill of quantities is clearly communicated to all parties involved, ensuring that the construction adheres to the established design specifications.

The minister’s visit forms part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Public Works to evaluate gaps in the national road network and use this information to guide future infrastructure projects across Guyana.
