In line with the government’s transformative agenda, Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, conducted a series of community engagements in Linden on Thursday to assess the infrastructural needs of the region.
These engagements included a meeting with over 70 contractors to discuss upcoming road works and procurement processes.
With a budgetary allocation of 1.6 billion dollars for road upgrades in Region 10, a comprehensive program of road works is set to be implemented over the next few months.
Minister Edghill highlighted that the plan includes the construction of both concrete and asphaltic concrete roads in the region, aimed at enhancing the road infrastructure.
During the meeting with contractors, Minister Edghill discussed the tender and award process for the road projects. The engagement aimed to provide contractors with crucial information and guidance on how to participate in the bidding process effectively.
To ensure local participation and empower contractors from the region, works will be tendered through the process of restrictive tendering, in accordance with the Procurement Act.
This approach will offer opportunities for local contractors to be actively involved in the projects and contribute to the development of their community.
Moreover, the contractors attending the meeting benefited from procurement training facilitated by the Ministry of Public Works.
The training aimed to equip them with the necessary knowledge and understanding of procurement procedures, enabling them to submit competitive and compliant bids.
The bidding process is scheduled to commence by August 7, 2023, setting the stage for an exciting phase of infrastructural development in Region 10. As the government remains committed to its transformative agenda, these road upgrades will not only improve transportation and connectivity but also stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents in the region.
