Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, underscored the significance of tourism in Guyana’s burgeoning economy while addressing a gathering at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
He highlighted the coordinated approach evident in the establishment of new airlines and hotels, emphasizing that these developments showcase Guyana’s multifaceted economic landscape beyond oil and gas.
Minister Edghill emphasized the government’s commitment to building a sustainable future for Guyana, recognizing tourism and agriculture as pivotal sectors for job creation and economic growth.
He stressed the integral role played by tourism in generating employment opportunities for various sectors, including hairdressers, bed and breakfast operators, nail technicians, hotels, and tour guides.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of shared interactions between tourists and locals in honing Guyanese skill sets.
Furthermore, Minister Edghill discussed the government’s engagement with international supervisory firms to ensure the successful implementation of major projects in the tourism sector.
He emphasized the significance of knowledge transfer through collaborations with high-quality engineers and supervisory experts.
The minister reiterated that Guyana’s achievements in the tourism sector are the result of deliberate efforts, rigorous negotiations, and a clear vision for the country’s future.
