Minister Charles Ramson Reflects on a Historic Year for Sports in Guyana

In a year-end press conference, Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr. praised the remarkable performance of Guyana’s athletes and the sports sector overall in 2024.

Describing the year as “remarkable, outstanding, and record-breaking,” Ramson highlighted the country’s success in various sporting disciplines on local, regional, and international levels.

Guyana’s athletes earned a record-breaking 534 international and regional medals, a feat that had never been accomplished before.

Minister Ramson expressed his pride in the athletes’ achievements, stating, “It’s been historic.”

The Minister also shared his hopes for continued progress in the sector, emphasizing that his role in the sport’s development is focused on leadership and creating opportunities for athletes to reach their full potential.

“We want to see our athletes on podiums, flying Guyana’s flag,” Ramson said.

The Ministry of Sport has also unveiled plans to expand the Elite Athlete Program, integrate sports science and technology into training, and increase funding to further develop the nation’s sporting programs.
