GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – On Day Two of the Energy Conference, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, spoke on the world’s shift toward renewable energy and outlined Guyana’s efforts to accelerate this transition.

He emphasized that the focus should be on reducing the demand for fossil fuels rather than simply limiting production.

This approach, he noted, would help prevent economic setbacks that could arise from cutting production while demand remains high.

Minister Bharrat highlighted Guyana’s investments in cleaner energy solutions, including the Gas-to-Shore project, hydropower, solar, and wind energy, all part of the country’s Low Carbon Development Strategy.

However, he acknowledged that securing the necessary resources for this energy transition remains a significant challenge, especially for many economies that lack the financial means to make this shift.

The minister also urged delegates not to focus solely on the oil and gas sector, pointing out that Guyana offers vast potential in other industries.

He encouraged further exploration of diverse energy sources and emphasized the importance of attracting investors to support the country’s broader energy transition efforts.

The conference discussions also touched on critical topics such as financing sustainable development, preparing a future-ready workforce, and empowering women within the energy sector.
