The annual Pork Knockers Day, a highlight of Mining Week in Guyana, took place across various mining districts, bringing the week-long festivities to a close.
Organized by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, this event celebrated the critical role of the mining industry in the nation’s economy.
Pork Knockers Day was observed in multiple mining locations including Mahdia, Bartica, Matthews Ridge, and Tamakay.
This tradition is highly valued in Bartica and other mining communities, underscoring the historical and economic importance of the mining sector in Guyana.
David Daniels, Chairman of the Small Miners Association, spoke about the significance of the event, noting that it reflects the long-standing role of mining in the country’s development.
He highlighted that the celebration honors the contributions of miners and marks an important aspect of Mining Week.
The day was filled with various activities that celebrated the mining industry’s resilience and progress, from the historic gold and diamond rush to modern sustainable practices.
The event is expected to continue as a permanent fixture in Mining Week, further acknowledging the indispensable role of miners in Guyana’s economy.
