By Celestine Chacon | Jan 3, 2024

Several villages in Region Eight have received millions of dollars in funding to facilitate road upgrades, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and connectivity in hinterland communities.

The disbursement process, overseen by Member of Parliament Alister Charlie, saw various sums ranging from $3.5 million to $5 million allocated to villages including Taruka, Monkey Mountain, Penak, Itabac, Waipa, Kaibarupai, Kurukabaru, Kato, Kopinang, Chenapau, Campbelltown, and Micobie.

The initiative, managed by the Ministry of Public Works, promotes community participation by empowering villages to oversee and maintain their own roadways.

The funds will be used to enhance local infrastructure, ensuring improved access and connectivity among communities.

Residents were encouraged to collaborate in the development of their villages and actively support their local councils in executing the road projects.

The government’s commitment to improving hinterland transportation networks is expected to enhance economic opportunities and overall living conditions in Region Eight.
