Last week, Guyana marked the 44th anniversary of Michael Parris’ historic achievement of winning a bronze medal at the 1980 Summer Olympic Games in Moscow.
To celebrate this significant milestone, a commemorative fitness walk was held on Sunday from the Bank of Guyana to the Seawall Bandstand.
Michael Parris, now 66 years old, joined family and government officials in the event, which recognized his remarkable contribution to Guyanese sports.
The fitness walk provided an opportunity for Parris to share insights with young athletes about the importance of focus and perseverance in achieving success in sports.
Cristy Campbell, Commissioner in the National Sports Commission, and Steve Ninvalle, Director of Sport, both acknowledged Parris’ profound impact on the sport and his enduring legacy.
The National Sports Commission also extended a financial contribution to Parris in recognition of his accomplishments.
