Men on Mission to Host Nationwide Father’s Day Walk and Charitable Activities

By Delicia Janneire

Representatives from the Men on Mission (MoM) initiative are urging fathers to uphold their roles as heads of households while ensuring that violence is not part of their lives.

This statement was made as the MoM team shared their scheduled Father’s Day activities with the media.

One of the key events planned is a Father’s Day walk, set to take place in all ten administrative regions of Guyana.

Captain Vernon Burnett of the Coastguard highlighted the activities, which will include a house handover and visits to orphanages.

The Georgetown leg of the walk is expected to attract the largest turnout, with support from the armed forces, private sector bodies, and the general public.

Lieutenant Colonel Bhageshwar Murli, a MoM Committee Member, detailed the route, which will begin at Camp Ayanganna at 6 am on Sunday.

Roads along the route will be temporarily closed, and medical teams and water points will be strategically positioned.

In addition to the walk, the MoM team will hand over a new home to a single mother of two.

Dr. Josh Kanhani, another MoM Committee Member, expressed the team’s commitment to standing in for fathers by providing this home.

The MoM team will also visit orphanages, bringing dry goods to share meals and interact with the children. Lt. Col. Murli emphasized the importance of spending time with the children, listening to their stories, and letting them know they are cared for.

MoM representatives shared their views on fatherhood, emphasizing the importance of being present and providing comfort.

They called for a recognition of the need to eliminate violence and highlighted the responsibilities of being a father figure.
