Men on Mission Initiative Goes Beyond Building Homes, Says President Ali

By Saskia Warrick

President Irfaan Ali, the founder of the Men on Mission (MOM) initiative, has addressed recent criticisms regarding the program.

He emphasized that MOM offers more than just house construction – it transforms lives.

President Ali highlighted the initiative’s success in building 50 homes for vulnerable Guyanese families across the country over the past two years.

However, he went a step further, explaining how MOM also provides men with valuable skills, reintegrating them into society and preparing them for the workforce.

The President underscored the program’s sustainable approach.

MOM leverages the hard work of volunteers from various sectors, including civil society, the private sector, and the government.

This collaborative effort ensures the program’s long-term viability.

Looking ahead, President Ali mentioned that MOM is identifying vulnerable families interested in starting small-scale agricultural production.

This aligns with the government’s push for regional and local self-sufficiency.

Men participating in MOM can contribute their newfound skills and knowledge to these agricultural endeavors.

The National Assembly approved $500 million for MOM earlier this year, bringing the total government allocation to over $1 billion.

The initiative also benefits from significant contributions from companies and individuals.

By providing not just homes but also skills and opportunities, the Men on Mission initiative empowers Guyanese families and strengthens communities.
