Meeting Addresses Underperformance of Community Infrastructure Improvement Project in Region Ten

By Tracey Liverpool

A meeting was convened to address the underperformance of workers involved in the Community Infrastructure Improvement Project (CIIP) in Region Ten.

Ministers Juan Edghill and Sonia Parag proposed solutions to enhance their effectiveness.

The discussion took place following significant flooding in several Linden communities, which highlighted the shortcomings of enhancement workers.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, noted that the government has invested considerable resources in community cleanup and maintenance efforts, yet the workers have not met expectations, leading to public criticism.

Minister Sonia Parag reiterated that substantial funds are allocated to ensure workers are compensated, emphasizing the need for them to fulfill their responsibilities.

Currently, these part-time workers are engaged for 16 days each month.

Concerns were raised by workers regarding inadequate tools that impede their ability to maintain and clean certain areas, as well as the long distances they must travel to receive their payments.

In response, Minister Parag assured them that the necessary equipment would be acquired soon, and that payments for workers from Malali and Muritario would be facilitated in their communities.

Both ministers urged the CIIP workers to recommit to their roles and contribute to community enhancement and maintenance.

The CIIP initiative was designed to improve community aesthetics while also creating job opportunities.
