Massive Investment in Sport Elicits Anticipation for Positive Outcomes

Chris Bowman, the Director of Youth Basketball Guyana, is eagerly awaiting the upcoming budget announcement on Monday, hoping to see Guyana reaping the benefits of significant investments made in sports over the past two years.

As the country braces for another historic budget announcement by Senior Minister Ashni Singh in the National Assembly, Bowman shared his vision for sports investment in the coming year.

He emphasized the importance of witnessing tangible returns from the substantial investments made in the sporting sector.

Bowman, in an interview with NCN Sport, acknowledged the historic and vital infrastructure improvements made to major sporting facilities and critical community grounds.

According to him, these improvements are pivotal for the sustainability of sports in the country.

Highlighting basketball as an example, Bowman pointed out its tremendous potential for growth.

He believes that directing attention to this area could yield significant results in both the short and long term.

The experienced sports administrator outlined his macro-level vision, emphasizing the importance of investing in school facilities.

He expressed the view that such investments would contribute to the overall development of sports in the country.

In 2023, sports received a historic allocation of 4.3 billion, with a primary focus on infrastructural transformation under the leadership of Minister Charles Ramson Jr.

One notable investment is in the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, which is undergoing upgrades, including bucket seats, a modern front, and air conditioning.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming budget announcement, stakeholders like Chris Bowman look forward to witnessing how continued investments in sports will contribute to the growth and success of the sector in Guyana.
