Massive Investment in Community Roads in Region Six

Contracts worth a staggering $8.8 billion were officially signed for the construction of 287 community roads across Region Six.

The signing ceremony, led by Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, took place at the Albion Community Center Ground, marking a significant step towards enhancing the infrastructure in this region.

A total of 200 contractors will be entrusted with carrying out these vital works.

Dr. Singh emphasized that this substantial investment will not only involve the rebuilding of existing roads but will also bring about the creation of entirely new routes in various communities within Region Six.

Reflecting on the transformative impact of such projects, Dr. Singh remarked, “I have had the privilege of going to communities and witnessing roads that previously were dams… many of them never having been in receipt of the benefit of a finished surface. I have gone back and seen how the construction of a road where previously there was a dam, the immeasurable difference this makes to communities.”

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the remarkable strides made by the government in public infrastructure development over the past three years.

He stressed that the government has not only kept its promises but has exceeded expectations, firmly establishing a track record of accountable and effective governance.

Both ministers reaffirmed the Irfaan Ali Government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the infrastructure needs of every street in every village across Guyana.

This monumental investment in community roads is poised to significantly improve accessibility and connectivity within Region Six, setting the stage for enhanced socio-economic development.
