The Ministry of Agriculture has announced a $5 million grant to enhance cassava production in Massara, Region Nine, as part of efforts to support agricultural development and community growth.

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, made the announcement during a two-day outreach visit to the region.

Cassava, a staple crop in the area, faces several challenges, and the grant aims to address these issues by improving production techniques.

The National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) will assist the community in adopting better farming methods.

In addition to this, the Ministry will provide fencing materials for a pilot project, as well as 10 sheep from the Guyana Livestock Development Authority to support agricultural diversification.

A grass-cutting machine will also be handed over to the Village Council to help maintain community pastures.

This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of Massara’s residents while boosting agricultural output in the region.
