Man-Son-Hing Leads Bishops High to U18 Title at YBG Georgetown Regional Championship

The Bishop’s High School team claimed their U18 Georgetown title and secured a spot in the national school’s basketball festival during the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Georgetown regional tournament on Friday at the National Gymnasium.

The U18 final was a thrilling match-up between The Bishops High and Saint Stanislaus College, with Bishops emerging victorious in an 83-79 win.

Having participated in all three categories of the finals and losing in the U14 and girls’ divisions earlier in the day, Bishops High was determined to take home a title.

Basketball prodigy Carmelo Man-Son-Hing delivered an outstanding performance, capturing the tournament MVP with an unforgettable display.

Man-Son-Hing scored 49 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and made 10 steals, showcasing his prowess on the court.

His teammate Colwyn Stephens also contributed significantly with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Saint Stanislaus College was competitive throughout the game, with Brandon McKoy leading their efforts with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Alafin Joseph added a strong performance with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite erasing a 12-point lead, it took The Bishops High two extra periods to dethrone last year’s Georgetown Regionals Champs, ultimately securing the 83-79 victory.

The finals action began with the Under 14 Boys category, where Queens College faced The Bishops High School.

Queens College emerged victorious with a score of 43-32.

In the girls’ final, President’s College defeated The Bishops High in a low-scoring game, finishing 27-12.

Teams that reached the finals will qualify for a place in the 2024 edition of the National School Basketball Festival, set to tip off at the National Gymnasium from June 30th to July 7th, starting at 2 pm.

The festival is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Ltd and G-Boats Guyana.
