Public Works Minister Juan Edghill has provided updates to Toshaos from Regions 8 and 9 regarding ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Pirara Bridge.

The 410.2-million-dollar bridge is the final of 32 to be completed along the Kurupukari to Lethem corridor, and is expected to be finished by Christmas of this year.

Once completed, it will significantly improve transportation for commuters in the region.

In addition to the Pirara Bridge, Minister Edghill emphasized that the government is making major investments in community participation projects.

A total of 300 million dollars has been allocated to Region 8, with individual projects receiving up to 5 million dollars each.

The Toshaos have already begun receiving cheques to carry out necessary works like clearing trees and cleaning creeks, which will be followed by larger rehabilitation projects involving heavy machinery.

Minister Edghill also announced plans for an internal road network in Region 9, specifically targeting the villages of Nappi, Awarewaunau, Shulinab, and Karaudarnau.

This internal road system is a key part of the government’s commitment to connect villages and improve access.

Furthermore, an additional 6.4 billion dollars has been allocated for road works in several hinterland communities.

These works will include a 60km stretch of road from Orealla to Kwakwani and upgrades from Great Falls to 58 miles, among other projects.

These infrastructure improvements are expected to enhance connectivity and support economic development across the hinterland regions.
