Toshaos and senior council members from Region One and its sub-districts have been assured by Public Works Minister Juan Edghill that significant infrastructure works, including the completion of roads, bridges, and airstrips, are on the horizon.

While addressing the National Toshaos’ Council Conference, Minister Edghill emphasized that all internal roads in key areas such as Mabaruma, Moruca, Port Kaituma, and Matthew’s Ridge will be completed using concrete paving.

Additionally, the road from Mabaruma Township to Waunau is expected to commence soon.

Minister Edghill also informed the council about ongoing projects on the stelling and the Santa Rosa Bridge.

He reassured the Toshaos that while work has begun on the stelling, materials for the bridge are being procured, and work will begin soon.

The Matthew’s Ridge airstrip is another priority, with Minister Edghill noting that the labor for this project will be sourced from the local community.

So far, the government has expended 2.5 billion dollars on infrastructure works in Mabaruma, 1.5 billion in Moruca, and another 1.5 billion in Matarkai, with projects in White Water also underway following commitments made by President Ali.
