-LCDS funding cited as major tourism boost

Fresh off the recently held Mainstay Regatta, the community is in high praise of the Government investments, including the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) funds, that are helping to drive tourism and agriculture in the community.

Speaking during a visit by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Toshao Marsha Williams explained that the village’s first two cabins were developed through LCDS investments.

This investment has empowered the community to now offer its own accommodation for visitors, beyond the well-known Lake Mainstay Resort.

”We the people of mainstay realize that we can be able to boost more and so we are investing using the governments commitment support and we are putting our village out there,” she said.

She said the investment in the cabins has created jobs for residents, while local caterers and transportation providers are also benefiting from increased visitor activity.

Williams added that improvements in infrastructure are further enhancing the village and making it more accessible to visitors.

“And now we’re having it more even better with the president commitment with completing our roads and I must tell you that I believe we will have to get more buildings because we’ll have more people in mainstay,” she explained.

Williams added that the investments are also strengthening the village’s agricultural sectors, while creating new opportunities and supporting a more sustainable future for residents.

The Government has continued to channel investments under the Low Carbon Development Strategy into Amerindian communities across the country.

Communities come up with their own village improvement plans, supporting initiatives aimed at improving their livelihoods, strengthening local economies and promoting sustainable development.
