Mainstay Goldstar FC earned their promotion to the GFF Elite League after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mahaica Determinators FC in the Qualification Play-Off Finals at the National Training Centre, Providence.
The match, held over the weekend, saw Rayeon John score the only goal of the game in the 7th minute, which proved to be the match-winner.
The win secured Mainstay Goldstar FC’s spot in the prestigious Elite League for Season 7, making them one of the top teams in Guyana’s football landscape.
Team captain Randy DeJonge expressed his excitement, sharing that the squad was ready to shift focus to the challenges ahead in the Elite League.
Meanwhile, head coach Jermaine Ralph praised the team’s determination, emphasizing that despite the challenges, the players are ready to put in the hard work necessary for success in the top league.
Ralph noted that the team’s journey is just beginning, and they are prepared to go further.
Although Mainstay Goldstar celebrated their promotion, Mahaica Determinators FC still has a chance to secure a place in the Elite League.
They will face Ann’s Grove FC, the 9th-place finisher from Season 6, in a final qualification match on Wednesday, January 22.
