Mahaicony River Residents Receive Water Tanks for Improved Access to Potable Water

Over 200 households in the Mahaicony River and surrounding areas in Region Five have received 1,700-liter black water tanks, enhancing their access to potable water.

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha personally visited the area to distribute the tanks, addressing the concerns raised by residents in December.

Residents had previously expressed worries about saltwater intrusion in the Mahaicony River, as well as issues related to potable water and irrigation for their farmlands.

Minister Mustapha raised these concerns at Cabinet, leading to President Ali’s directive to provide a water tank for each household.

During the distribution, Minister Mustapha reiterated the government’s commitment to providing resources to improve the livelihoods of residents.

He also highlighted other infrastructural developments planned for the region and discussed the outlook for rice production.

The distribution of black tanks extended to other communities, including Bamboo Landing, Western, and Sea-Kumaka, satellite areas in Whitewater Village in the Mabaruma sub-district, among others.
