The Lusignan Primary School has recently witnessed significant improvements with the renovation and modernization of its library and sanitary facilities, thanks to the combined efforts of two Canadian-based Guyanese individuals and the charitable organizations Food for the Poor in both Guyana and Canada.
Former student, now residing overseas, Carrol Verasamy spearheaded the initiative, selecting the library for its special significance in her own life. Verasamy shared a touching personal story about her mother, who, after years of struggling with illiteracy, finally learned to read later in life. This experience motivated Verasamy to give back to her alma mater in a meaningful way.
The newly upgraded library now offers an expanded collection of books and a variety of learning materials, including electronic devices, to enhance the educational experience of the students.
Head Teacher of Lusignan Primary, Marcia Harris, expressed her deep appreciation for the support, emphasizing that the improved library will be instrumental in enhancing the literacy skills of the students. Harris also highlighted that the literacy teacher will collaborate with other educators to fully utilize the resources in the library to further benefit the students’ learning experience.
In addition to the library upgrade, the collaborative effort with Food for the Poor resulted in the renovation of the school’s sanitary facilities, contributing to a more conducive learning environment for the students.
The project serves as a heartwarming example of individuals and organizations coming together to make a positive impact on education and student welfare.
