LTI and GTI Kick Off Tertiary Basketball League with Victories

The Tertiary Basketball League commenced with a bang as Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and Government Technical Institute (GTI) secured impressive wins in the Youth Basketball Guyana competition at the National Gymnasium on Sunday.

In the opening match, LTI displayed dominance against New Amsterdam Technical Institute, clinching a comfortable 81-45 victory.

Kemol Grimmond led the charge for LTI with an outstanding performance, scoring 22 points and grabbing 19 rebounds.

He received strong support from Neil Marks and Colin Phillips, who contributed 12 points each.

In the second game of the day, GTI emerged victorious against Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) with a final score of 72-62.

Martin Edwards was the standout performer for GTI, leading the scoring with 23 points and five rebounds.

Jamal Mercier added 15 points and eleven rebounds, while Peter Langevine showcased his skills with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals.

Despite a commendable effort from Shannon Wilson, who scored 23 points and secured 15 rebounds for GSA, the team fell short in their pursuit of victory.

Alwin DeFreitas and Dennis Prince also made significant contributions to the scoreboard for GSA.

Looking ahead, the tournament will continue on Sunday, May 19th, with exciting matchups scheduled.

University of Guyana will face off against GSA, Upper Corentyne Combined will take on Linden Technical Institute, and New Amsterdam Technical Institute will battle Government Technical Institute.

The Tertiary Basketball League promises to deliver thrilling action every Sunday, leading up to the final on June 17th at the National Gymnasium.
