Local Government Ministry Allocates Budget for Market Rehabilitation in 2024

The Ministry of Local Government aims to utilize its budgetary allocation to complete various community-focused projects, with a particular focus on the rehabilitation and construction of several markets.

Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Anand Persaud, shared details of the projects.

In response to the losses incurred due to fires in several markets over the past two years, the 2024 budget allocates 1.3 billion dollars for the completion and rehabilitation of markets.

The identified markets include Hydroni, Parika, Charity, Mon Repos, Kumaka, and Suddie.

This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to improve the selling environment for vendors, fostering economic growth.

Additionally, the ministry’s agenda for 2024 includes the completion of various infrastructural projects across all administrative regions.

Member of Parliament Alister Charlie provided a breakdown of some of these projects, such as the construction of Mabaruma Hospital in Region 1 and the extension of Yarrowkabra School, including the addition of ultrasound rooms and a waiting area.

The rehabilitation and construction of markets, along with other infrastructure projects, signify the government’s commitment to enhancing local communities and supporting economic development.
