A group of athletes and coaches from Guyana are set to benefit from a prestigious scholarship opportunity at JAIN University in India, with the program expected to begin in early 2025.
Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., made the announcement, highlighting the significance of the scholarships, which will span multiple sports including badminton, basketball, cricket, golf, swimming, and table tennis.
The selected individuals will be able to further their sports careers and education at JAIN University, which is part of the government’s Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) initiative.
The GOAL program has been instrumental in providing Guyanese citizens with opportunities to study at universities worldwide.
Among the selected athletes and coaches are Kristian Sahadeo (player), Nigel Anthony Bryan (table tennis coach), Zeynul Ramsammy (player), Quasen Nedd (coach), Frank Joseph (player), Nathan Waddell (player), Akili Haynes (badminton coach), Paul Mahaica Junior (player), Shanice Mahaica-Olaleye (coach), and Warren Wilson (swimming coach).
Minister Ramson commended the athletes for their achievements and emphasized the long-term value of the scholarship for future athletes in Guyana.
He expressed high expectations for their performance and development upon their return.
This scholarship program marks another significant step in the government’s efforts to elevate sports in Guyana and provide its athletes with opportunities for growth on the global stage.
