Lindeners are set to celebrate Emancipation at the fifth annual Freedom Fest, themed “Shades of Melanin.”
The event, organized by Legacy Entertainment, will take place on August 1 at Richmond Hill.
The theme “Shades of Melanin” aims to include all Guyanese and celebrate Black excellence.
Jermaine Figueira, promoter of Freedom Fest, highlighted that the festival provides Lindeners with an opportunity to connect with one another, support local businesses, and showcase local artists.
Activities will commence at 10:00 am and include an array of African cultural experiences through food, fashion, music, and performances.
The family-friendly event will feature a kid’s zone and various competitions, such as Cook Up and Metemgee contests, as well as awards for the best African outfit and head wrap.
Figueira emphasized the importance of involving children and families, noting that providing a platform to learn about African culture is beneficial for future community leaders.
The Linden Freedom Fest, which began in 2016, was established to offer citizens a chance to celebrate African heritage and culture.
