Scores of Lindeners gathered at Mast Villa in Amelia’s Ward on Sunday for an outreach event, where Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill elucidated the benefits of Budget 2024.
Despite the Region being allocated $7.163 billion for Capital and Current works, Minister Edghill assured residents that more development is on the horizon for the Region, emphasizing how the Government plans to manage the $1.146 trillion allocated for all Guyanese.
Minister Edghill highlighted that Budget 2024 delineates the policies, plans, programmes, and projects to be implemented, with a focus on putting more money into people’s pockets.
The removal of VAT on water and electricity, restoration of subsidies for pensioners, automatic qualification for Public Assistance for individuals living with disabilities, and write-off of student loans at the University of Guyana for young professionals who have contributed to Guyana were among the key points discussed by Minister Edghill.
Reflecting on the promises made, Minister Edghill noted that the government has surpassed its commitment of 50,000 jobs and completed over 3,000 projects.
He also highlighted the Part-Time Workers Programme as a progressive avenue for poverty alleviation and empowering individuals.
PPP/C Regional Councilor Dexter Harding lauded Budget 2024 as a ‘People’s Budget,’ emphasizing equitable distribution of goods and services.
He urged everyone to join efforts for the development of the region and Guyana as a whole.
