Youths in Linden are gaining a deeper understanding of Guyanese history and culture through the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports’ three-week culture camp.
This enriching program is held at Lichas Hall, catering to children aged 13-17, Monday through Friday.
The camp coordinator, Trudell Scott, mentioned that this is the third year the camp has been conducted, aiming to expose young people to their culture through art, heritage, music, and dancing.
The goal is to educate children about their history and engage them in various cultural activities.
The camp also includes lessons in African and East Indian drumming, with Julian Stewart teaching the children how to play these traditional instruments.
Participants will enjoy a one-day tour across Linden, visiting its monuments and historic sites.
At the end of the camp, they will present what they have learned over the three weeks.
The camp has been described as inspirational and fun, providing valuable insights into the community’s history.
Campers will receive certificates upon completion of the program.
The Youth Culture Camp is a nationwide initiative by the Government, aimed at engaging children in meaningful activities during the July-August holiday.
