Over 20 youths in Linden have seized the opportunity to pursue a maritime cadetship program offered by the Atlantic Alliance (AA) Maritime & Offshore Training Institute in collaboration with the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL).
The cadetship program, which spans three years, aims to prepare participants for careers in the maritime and oil and gas sectors.
During an information session held at the Watooka Guest House, Executive Director of the AA Maritime & Offshore Training Institute, Asif Hamid, explained that the program’s first two years focus on theoretical and practical sessions.
In the third year, participants undergo internships on vessels, working as engineering officers or cadet officers under supervision.
Hamid emphasized that the program adheres to international standards and is accredited by both the Maritime Administration Department and the Maritime Authority of Jamaica.
Successful completion of the program allows participants to become internationally licensed cadet officers, meeting the growing demand for skilled workers in the maritime and oil and gas industries.
This outreach in Linden is the second initiative by the AA Maritime & Offshore Training Institute and GOAL to encourage enrollment in the maritime cadet program.
Representatives from West Africa and South Africa Alliance Inc. also participated, providing insights into the industry and available opportunities.
Similar registration outreaches for cadet officer programs have recently been conducted in Essequibo and Berbice, further expanding access to educational and career opportunities in the maritime sector.
