The vibrant celebrations of Linden Town Week 2024 were inaugurated over the weekend at the Linden theme park, resonating with the theme, “We Are One People, One Nation, One Destiny, Linden the heart of Guyana.”
This year’s Linden Town Week festivities are scheduled to take place from April 26 to May 6, encompassing a dynamic array of events aimed at fostering community cohesion, commemorating achievements, and fostering unity, according to Mayor Sharma Solomon.
He emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in ensuring the success of the festivities, urging active participation from all residents.
President of the Linden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Lyndon Younge, expressed optimism about the event’s potential to stimulate the town’s development while showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
Management of Linden Town Week 2024 falls under the purview of the council’s social committee, with plans to expand the committee’s membership to accommodate more individuals in executing LTW initiatives.
As part of the Region Ten Tourism Committee’s “Rebranding Linden” initiative, Chairman Devin Sears highlighted the significance of positioning Linden as a pivotal hub for tourism and investment.
He emphasized the importance of entertainment tourism in attracting investment to the region, citing Linden Town Week as a key component in achieving this objective.
While a detailed calendar of events is yet to be released, Town Clerk Lennox Gasper raised concerns about the legality of activities surrounding Linden Town Week, citing the lack of involvement of the council’s administration.
Gasper asserted that without approval from the administration, the activities could be subject to penalties.
Linden Town Week, originally conceived as Linden Town Day by then-councilor Norville Fredericks, was first observed on April 28, 1996.
Fredericks envisioned the event as a platform to showcase Linden’s culture, foster community spirit, and create economic opportunities for residents.
