The Linden Town Week Committee has unveiled the calendar of events for 2024, marking the town’s anniversary with over 50 planned activities.
Revealed on the committee’s official Facebook page under the theme “One People, One Nation, One Destiny, Linden the heart of Guyana,” the calendar outlines a series of festivities set to commence from April 26 to May 6.
According to a statement from the Linden Mayor and Town Council, the calendar’s selection process was conducted transparently and inclusively.
Applicants proposed various ideas, which underwent scrutiny and shortlisting by the council to shape the final roster of events.
The celebrations kick off with the Queen of Hearts Pageant and j’ouvert on April 26, followed by an official opening ceremony and LTW church service at the Linden Municipal Park on April 28.
Highlights of the ensuing days include a symposium themed “Linden, the heart of Guyana,” and sports and education-focused competitions such as spelling bees, essay writing, and Skip-to-my-LOU.
Events throughout the week include a range of cultural, educational, and recreational activities aimed at showcasing the town.
These include the traditional bird whistling competition, an all-black themed party, and the introduction of a new concept called “Saints All White Sunday,” featuring multiple white-themed activities.
Transitioning to the Wismar shore on May 3, the celebrations continue with “Reggae by the River” and market day.
Various events like a school kayaking competition, boat tours, Republic Avenue Jam, and a business exposition are slated to entertain and engage participants.
The festivities culminate on the final day with nature tours, a cricket competition, and an international mega-concert headlined by renowned artist Rick Ross.
The overarching goal of these events is to promote Linden Town and commemorate its 54th anniversary.
The calendar release has drawn attention across various sectors, with topics ranging from politics and sports to business and low-carbon development.
As the countdown to Linden Town Week 2024 begins, anticipation mounts for what promises to be an engaging and memorable celebration.
