Linden Memorializes Martyrs on 12th Anniversary of Unrest

Twelve years after the tragic events of July 18, 2012, the Linden Martyrs were remembered during a poignant Remembrance Day Service.

The ceremony, held at the Linden Martyrs Memorial Park on Burnham Drive, honored Ron Somerset, Allan Lewis, and Shemroy Boyea, who lost their lives in the unrest.

Family members, local residents, and regional officials gathered to pay their respects.

The service featured the laying of wreaths and reflections on the lives of the fallen men.

Linden’s Mayor, Sharma Solomon, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families and community, emphasizing the enduring impact of the tragedy.

Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton and Region Ten Chairman Deron Adams also participated in the tributes.

Member of Parliament Jermaine Figueira highlighted the significance of the events, calling for unity among Lindeners and Guyanese.

He stressed that the July 18, 2012, protests illustrated the power of collective action in addressing critical issues affecting the community and the nation.

The commemoration marks a significant moment for Linden, reflecting on the resistance against proposed electricity tariff increases and the ongoing quest for justice and solidarity.
