Linden Mayor Sharma Solomon has advocated for an amnesty period benefiting market vendors during Wednesday’s statutory meeting of the Town Council.

Mayor Solomon emphasized that a significant portion of the council’s revenue is derived from the municipal markets.

He proposed offering concessions to vendors during the proposed amnesty period, slated for March and April.

During the meeting, Town Clerk Lennox Gasper announced plans to introduce Mobile Money (MMG) to facilitate residents in paying their rates and taxes more conveniently.

Mayor Solomon expressed support for this initiative, believing that MMG payments would streamline the process.

Additionally, Mayor Solomon addressed several other key issues. He highlighted the common complaint of insufficient street lighting during his community walkabouts.

To address this, he revealed plans to allocate funds for purchasing lights.

Furthermore, he disclosed that part of the $18 million subvention would be allocated for acquiring a mini excavator and road building materials to enhance infrastructure development.

Regarding Linden Town Week activities, Gasper proposed utilizing the animal pound compound for parking.

However, Mayor Solomon expressed concerns about potential opposition from animal rights activists.

He tasked the Economics Committee with evaluating the proposal and making a final decision.

The proposal for an amnesty period reflects Mayor Solomon’s commitment to supporting local vendors and fostering economic development in Linden.
