Tensions between the Mayor and Town Clerk of Linden escalated during Wednesday’s statutory meeting, resulting in the cancellation of proceedings as Town Clerk Lennox Gasper walked out, citing alleged hostility from Mayor Sharma Solomon.

Town Clerk Gasper accused Mayor Solomon of displaying hostile behavior during the meeting, deeming it “totally out of order.”

Gasper’s departure came after an amendment was introduced to the meeting’s agenda, which he chose not to acknowledge despite not objecting to the change.

Mayor Solomon countered, emphasizing the Mayor and Town Council’s responsibility to discuss and implement a viable vision for the town.

He further accused the Town Clerk of regularly walking out on meetings, impeding the council’s ability to conduct its business effectively.

With Gasper’s departure, the meeting was unable to proceed formally.

Mayor Solomon, however, opted to continue an informal discussion with councilors in an attempt to salvage some progress from the disrupted session.

The ongoing conflict between the Mayor and Town Clerk underscores broader challenges within the Linden Mayor and Town Council, highlighting the need for constructive dialogue and collaboration to address the town’s issues effectively.
