Linden Foundation Secondary School emerged victorious in this year’s Elite Kayaking and Nature Tours Inter-Schools Kayaking Competition, overthrowing reigning champions Kwakwani Secondary School.

The event unfolded on Sunday at the picturesque Watooka Riverfront.

Linden Foundation showcased their prowess on the water, clinching top honors in nine events and securing a total of 71 points.

Their outstanding performance earned them the champions’ trophy and a cash prize of $400,000, generously provided by title sponsors ExxonMobil Guyana.

Coaches Angeliqua Lou and Lisa Cheetow played pivotal roles in guiding the team to success, focusing on refining techniques and nurturing the students’ talent.

In a fiercely contested battle, Harmony Secondary claimed the second position with 63 points, while last year’s winners, Kwakwani Secondary School, settled for third place with 56 points.

Harmony Secondary received a cash prize of $250,000, while Kwakwani Secondary took home $150,000.

Promoter Dr. Deon Anderson expressed his delight at witnessing the competition evolve into a national-level event, stemming from friendly rivalries among schools.

As part of the prize distribution, schools will receive partial funding to support various developmental projects, enhancing both sports and educational pursuits.

Wisburg Secondary secured the fourth position with 52 points, contributing to the overall excitement of the competition.

Beyond the competitive spirit of the sport, the event provided a platform for families to come together and enjoy a day filled with fun activities.

The 3rd Annual Inter-Schools Kayaking Competition not only showcased the athletic talents of the participants but also fostered camaraderie and sportsmanship among the schools involved.
