Linden Fire Station Expands Contact Options Amid Rising Fires

As fire incidents surge, the Linden Fire Station is urging residents to utilize their direct lines for quicker response times.

The station has introduced two additional numbers, 444-6233 and 444-2814, alongside the central emergency response number 912.

Sub-officer Fenton Drepaul Saul explained the process, emphasizing that calling 912 connects residents to the control room attendant, who gathers basic information and verifies the call’s legitimacy.

The information is then relayed to the Linden Fire Station for prompt dispatch of firefighting resources.

For the year 2024, the Linden Fire Station has already responded to 12 fire calls, resulting in the destruction of two buildings.

Saul reiterated the importance of citizens equipping their homes and businesses with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

He urged residents to purchase smoke detectors and install them in their homes, emphasizing their role in providing early warnings.

Additionally, he highlighted the significance of having suitable fire extinguishers and encouraged citizens to seek guidance from the Fire Service on the appropriate types.

The most recent fire in Linden, suspected to be electrical in nature, displaced nine people.

During the firefighting operation, officers were reportedly assaulted, prompting condemnation from the Guyana Fire Service.

Authorities call on citizens to act responsibly and cooperate with emergency services to ensure a safer community.

Amid these challenges, the Linden Fire Station aims to enhance community safety through increased communication channels and public awareness regarding fire prevention measures.
