Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) initiatives in Linden received a boost with a dedicated awareness walk.
More than eight organizations and companies in Linden came together for an OSH awareness walk, showcasing their commitment to promoting safe and healthy work environments.
The procession, adorned with banners and echoing chants advocating for OSH, commenced at the Linden Hospital Complex and culminated at the Linden to Georgetown Bus Park.
This year’s event was a collaborative effort involving the Linden Hospital Complex, the Ministry of Labour, Linden Electricity Incorporated (LEI), BOSAI Minerals, and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
Darwin Bourne, Senior OSH Officer from the Ministry of Labour, emphasized the urgency of the theme “We are running out of time: ensuring safe and healthy work now in a changing environment,” highlighting the need to adapt to evolving workplace challenges.
Bourne stressed the importance of establishing safety and health committees to address these issues collectively.
Mayor Sharma Solomon of Region 10 echoed Bourne’s sentiments, urging other companies to join the cause and prioritize workplace safety.
The event also featured competitions, with the National Insurance Scheme winning first prize for the most informative chants, LEI securing second place, and Linden Hospital claiming third.
The RDC was awarded the best banner prize, followed by Linden Hospital and the Department of Education.
Additionally, the Department of Education was recognized as the best-dressed unit, adding a creative touch to the event.
April has been designated as Occupational Safety and Health Month, with OSH Day slated for April 28th, underscoring ongoing efforts to raise awareness and promote safety in the workplace.
This collaborative endeavor underscores the collective commitment of Linden’s organizations and companies towards ensuring safe and healthy work environments for all.
