Construction of the Lima hospital in Region Two is advancing steadily, with the facility expected to begin operations by May 2025.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, provided an update on the project during a recent site visit, highlighting the progress and the anticipated impact on local healthcare services.

Once completed, the Lima hospital will feature 75 beds, two operating theatres, an outpatient clinic, ultrasound machines, digital X-ray capabilities, a 24-hour accident and emergency unit, and a modern laboratory.

The hospital will cater primarily to the people of Region Two, as well as patients from neighboring Regions One and Three.

Minister Anthony stated that construction is progressing well, with a substantial completion expected by March or April 2025.

Once the necessary equipment arrives, the hospital will be ready for operation, targeting an official opening by May.

The facility will offer several first-time services for the region, including CT scans, and is designed with patient comfort in mind.

Dr. Anthony emphasized that the hospital will feature air-conditioned wards with private bathrooms and toilets, ensuring a comfortable environment for patients.

This project is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure across the country, aiming to provide world-class healthcare services to all Guyanese.
