In a significant gesture of support, the People’s Republic of China, through the Chinese Medical Brigade, has generously donated approximately $8 million worth of medical equipment to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC).

This substantial contribution aims to enhance the surgical and gynecological departments of the hospital, marking a pivotal step towards improving healthcare services in the region.

The donation, amounting to approximately US$40,000, was presented to the Linden Hospital Complex during a ceremony held in the hospital’s Lecture room.

Dr. Trevlon Braithwaite, the Medical Superintendent of LHC, expressed profound gratitude for the ongoing support from China, emphasizing the invaluable impact such contributions have on the community’s well-being.

One notable aspect of the donation is its focus on establishing a Human Papilloma Virus screening center within the hospital.

This initiative underscores the commitment to preventive healthcare measures and early detection of diseases, ultimately benefiting the local community.

Headed by Surgeon Dr. Wu Tem Fum, the 19th Chinese Medical Brigade highlighted the equipment’s role in enhancing training opportunities, particularly in laparoscopic surgeries.

Additionally, the brigade established a dedicated Hernia Treatment Center within the hospital’s operating theater, further expanding the range of specialized services available to patients.

During the ceremony, Counselor Li Hanqing from the Chinese Embassy, along with Medical Superintendent Dr. Braithwaite, unveiled the plaque commemorating the establishment of the Hernia Treatment Center.

Subsequently, the medical team, comprising surgeons, doctors, hospital staff, and administrators, conducted a comprehensive tour of the facility to identify additional areas for improvement and collaboration.

The donation of medical equipment from the Chinese government represents a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between China and Guyana, exemplifying their shared commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and services in the region.
