Leonora’s Synthetic Track Upgraded for Athletics

National Stadium, Synthetic Track to get multi-million dollar upgrades (Newsroom)

The National track and field centre at Leonora is set to resume operations on Thursday, following a comprehensive upgrade.

Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., announced the reopening during a recent visit to the facility.

The project included the resurfacing of the synthetic track at a cost of 77 million dollars.

Efforts to revamp the facility began with the relaying of a synthetic track and the construction of additional stands.

Minister Ramson emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure that athletes benefit from competing on surfaces that meet international standards.

Regarding the construction of the seating area, the minister mentioned that they are awaiting the delivery of plastic bucket seats for installation.

Addressing concerns about the condition of the pitch used for football, following a Concacaf home game, Minister Ramson assured that the ministry is committed to rectifying the issue.

The improvements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance sports facilities in Guyana, providing athletes with top-quality venues for training and competition.
