The Leonora Friday Night Market has proven to be a huge success, receiving strong support from residents, vendors, and farmers in Region Three.
This initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, aims to create a safer and more organized space for commerce while promoting local agriculture and business.
The market, which is a collaborative effort involving the Ministries of Public Works and Agriculture, the Region Three RDC, and the Interim Management Committee for Leonora Market, brought together farmers, vendors, and the local community.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, who attended the market’s launch, emphasized the transformation of the area, pointing out the benefits of relocating vendors from the unsafe and disorganized roadside to a cleaner, more structured environment.
She highlighted the market’s potential to improve residents’ lives by providing a one-stop shop for produce, clothes, and other goods, all while creating a lively community atmosphere.
A local farmer expressed gratitude to President Ali for initiating the market, noting its positive impact on the community.
Regional Chairman Shaik Ayube shared the vision for the broader development plans for the market, including infrastructural upgrades such as drainage systems, new blocks, and the addition of a food court.
With strong government backing and an inclusive approach, the Friday Night Market is set to become a cornerstone of the community, seamlessly blending commerce and social engagement.
