Lenox Shuman, former member of a coalition of small parties, recently expressed that Guyanese have lost trust in third parties and coalition politics.
Shuman, leader of the Liberty and Justice Party, was part of a coalition that secured one seat in the National Assembly.
Appearing on GlobeSpan, he criticized recent coalitions, stating that these alliances have led to distrust among partners and have ultimately harmed the country.
Shuman believes that post-election coalitions, given the challenges experienced with pre-election alliances, pose too great a risk to national development.
Although constitutional changes could make post-election coalitions more viable, he emphasized that human behavior cannot be legislated.
Shuman acknowledged that while there is room for small parties, they must remain independent and prove their worth to the Guyanese people.
He also pointed out that small parties do not need to form a government to fulfill their promises; they can cooperate with the current government to achieve their goals, as his party did.
