In an impressive display of skill and determination, Leguan Secondary School has secured victory for the second consecutive year at the National Junior Drive, Chip & Putt Golf Championship.
The championship, supported by the Ministry of Education, drew enthusiastic participation from schoolchildren across Guyana.
In a closely contested battle within the schools category, Leguan Secondary narrowly outperformed Rosignol Secondary to clinch the coveted title.
Good Hope Secondary also showcased consistent performances, earning them a commendable third place in the competition.
Other schools that participated included Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Hope Secondary, and Bladen Hall Multilateral, contributing to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.
Operational support for the tournament was provided by a dedicated team of teachers from CPCE (Cyril Potter College of Education), highlighting collaborative efforts within the education sector to promote sports excellence among youth.
Aleem Hussain, President of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA), expressed delight at the tournament’s success.
Reflecting on the growing popularity of golf in Guyana, Hussain noted that the event marked a significant increase in participation compared to previous years, with nearly 400 children actively involved in the sport across the country.
Hussain emphasized the positive feedback received from participants and parents alike, underscoring the event’s role in making golf more accessible and enjoyable for all.
Looking ahead, he announced plans for an even larger and more exciting tournament next year, promising continued growth and development in junior golf programs nationwide.
