Swimming is more than just a sport; it is a crucial life skill.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports is reinforcing this notion through its Learn to Swim program, now underway at the Albion Sports Complex in Berbice, Region Six.
This initiative, which is free of charge, offers swimming lessons to participants of all ages, from as young as six years old.
The program provides instruction on basic swimming techniques and allows participants to refine their skills in various strokes.
According to Randy Mangru, the Region 6 Sports Officer, the program has made a notable impact in Berbice.
Traditionally, the region has struggled to produce a sufficient number of athletes for competitions held in Georgetown.
However, Mangru indicates that the Learn to Swim program is helping to develop local talent and showing tangible improvements in athletic performance.
The current registration period for the Learn to Swim program will close on Friday, July 19.
Individuals interested in joining the program can sign up via the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports’ Facebook page or by contacting the regional office directly.
The program is set to conclude on July 31 with a closing ceremony at the National Aquatic Centre in Liliendaal, Georgetown, celebrating the achievements of the participants.
