The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, in collaboration with the National Sports Commission, introduced the inaugural ‘Learn to Swim’ program in Cinderella County, Essequibo.

Held at the Imam Bacchus Swimming Pool in Affiance, this initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing youth development through aquatic education.

Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr. emphasized the importance of such programs in youth development, highlighting the need for active participation from both parents and children.

He underscored the government’s commitment to extending opportunities like ‘Learn to Swim’ across Guyana, aiming to benefit communities nationwide.

Regional Chairperson Mrs. Vilma De Silva praised the launch of the program in Region 2 and called for improved facilities to support aquatic sports in the region, reflecting the enthusiastic support from the local community.

Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle acknowledged the historical significance of the program’s expansion into Essequibo, emphasizing its alignment with the government’s ‘One Guyana’ initiative.

He highlighted the success of similar programs nationwide, expressing optimism for its impact.

Sessions are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays from 14:00-16:00 for children, with adults having their sessions on Sundays from 15:00-16:00.

The program dates are scheduled throughout July, offering ample opportunity for participation.

Over 350 individuals have already registered, coming from various coastal villages and the Pomeroon area. Interested participants can contact Regional Sports Officer Ms. Wazeeda Bacchus or Head Coach Paul Mahaica for more information or visit the Ministry of Sport or Guyana Learn to Swim Facebook pages.
