The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has inaugurated the Gender-Based Violence Mobile Unit in Khan’s Hill, Mabaruma, Region One.

This initiative aims to provide immediate and accessible support to survivors of gender-based violence in remote and indigenous communities.

The mobile unit consolidates essential services such as psychosocial support, medical assistance, and legal aid under one roof, addressing the critical needs of survivors in the region.

Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, emphasized that this milestone signifies significant progress towards reducing violence statistics in Guyana and creating a safer environment for children and families.

European Union Ambassador to Guyana, Rene Van Nes, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to initiatives like this, emphasizing the center’s role in facilitating healing and empowerment for survivors, thus enabling their active participation in society.

The new facility is expected to enhance the support network for survivors, promote community safety, and raise awareness about gender-based violence prevention and response.
