In a significant move towards land regularization, the Ministry of Housing and Water initiated a process aimed at granting land titles to individuals squatting on lands in the Fitz Hope area of Phase Four, Amelia’s Ward in Linden.
Under the leadership of Minister Susan Rodrigues, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, the exercise took place at the Linden Foundation Secondary School.
A total of 167 individuals commenced the process to legally occupy the lands they currently reside on by signing up for their certificates of title.
Minister Rodrigues fulfilled a promise made to residents occupying lands in the area, emphasizing the opportunities for development and financial independence that ownership of land titles brings.
During the exercise, individuals were able to pay their processing fee and half of the value of the land, signaling their commitment to the regularization process.
Residents expressed their gratitude and joy for the opportunity to secure land titles after years of waiting.
They highlighted the significance of this development in fulfilling their dreams and bringing satisfaction to the citizens of Guyana.
While acknowledging the challenges and lengthy process involved, residents remained thankful for the opportunity provided by the government.
The Ministry assured residents that they can expect to receive their titles within six months.
Additionally, Minister Rodrigues reassured residents that the government is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the housing area by providing essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, drainage, utilities, as well as reserved areas for recreational spaces, schools, and health centers.
This landmark initiative not only addresses the issue of land tenure but also sets the stage for holistic community development in the region.
