By Tracey Liverpool

The Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) 2024 senior league kicked off on Monday with an exciting doubleheader at the Amelia’s Ward hard court.

In the first game, Victory Valley Royals showcased their skills against Block 22 Flames, securing a decisive victory with a score of 35-17.

The second game of the night saw Retrieve Raiders facing off against Amelia’s Ward Jets, with the Jets emerging victorious, winning 52-36.

The league will continue on Saturday with another doubleheader.

Block 22 Flames will clash with Central Amelia’s Ward Kings in the first game, followed by a matchup between Victory Valley Royals and Amelia’s Ward Jets.

LABA’s president, Dawn Barker, emphasized that the league is part of the association’s efforts to revive basketball in the town.

This follows the completion of LABA’s under-17 school tournament.

Five teams are competing in the league, vying for the top prize of one hundred thousand dollars.

The second-place team will receive seventy-five thousand dollars, while the third and fourth place finishers will take home fifty thousand and twenty-five thousand dollars, respectively.
