LABA LEAGUE BOUNCES OFF ON MAY 26 – FIVE TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE

The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) is set to host its 2024 Senior League, commencing on Independence Day, May 26.

Five teams will be vying for the championship in this highly anticipated tournament.

The teams competing in this year’s tournament are the Victory Valley Royals, Retrieve Raiders, Central Mackenzie Kings, Amelia’s Ward Jets, and Block 22 Flames.

Dawn Barker, President of LABA, shared that the tournament will feature a group stage format before progressing to knockout rounds.

She expressed optimism about community support as the association strives to revive interest in basketball.

“We recently resuscitated the league, and we had our initial meetings… I see it being a very exciting time for basketball… now we are bringing basketball back,” said Barker.

The tournament has garnered significant support, with Nigel Hinds serving as a key sponsor.

Barker highlighted his contribution, noting, “We have sponsorship; one of our main sponsors is Mr. Nigel Hinds, who recently donated funds for this tournament.”

The participating clubs will compete for the top prize of 100,000 dollars, with second, third, and fourth prizes set at 75,000, 50,000, and 25,000 dollars, respectively.

The tournament also enjoys support from the NABORS Basketball Organization and basketball enthusiasts James Brushe and Gary Stephens.

All games will be held at the Amelia’s Ward Basketball Court over a span of 12 days, promising a thrilling season for local basketball fans.
