The Guyana Basketball Federation’s (GBF) Elite 16 Knockout Tournament continued on Wednesday, with the Kwakwani Untouchables and Victory Valley Royals advancing to the next round.

Teams from Region Ten dominated, sending the Wortmanville Pacesetters and the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans packing.

In the first match of the evening, the Kwakwani Untouchables triumphed over the Wortmanville Pacesetters in a thrilling contest, securing a 69-66 victory.

Game Recap:
The Pacesetters came out strong, showcasing their offensive firepower by scoring 24 points in the first quarter, holding the Untouchables to just 17.

However, Kwakwani began to regain their composure in the second quarter.

Despite being down 37-31 at halftime, the Untouchables continued their rally in the second half.

They closed the gap in the third quarter and managed a dominant 26-14 finish in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.

Kimol Grimmond, a forward for the Untouchables, reflected on the game in a post-match interview with NCN Sport.

“Honestly, we focused more on defense tonight. We realized that we were slacking in the last game, so we knew we had to do better,” Grimmond explained.

“Even when we were down by eight or eleven points, we just kept our composure, stayed aggressive, and didn’t give up.”

Grimmond also emphasized the team’s need to cut down on fouls and free throw opportunities for their opponents, stating, “We still need to stop making a lot of fouls and giving a lot of free throws. We need to calm down and maintain our composure.”

In the second game, the Victory Valley Royals defeated the University of Guyana Trojans 91-75, securing their spot in the next round.

The GBF Elite 16 Knockout Tournament will continue on Saturday.
